PubCon Day 1 Recap & What Has Me Thinking
Yesterday was my very first day attending PubCon and to say the least – I was impressed. The talent that conducting the panels and speaking at the keynote was second to none, well expect for one gal – she was out of her league.
The day started out with a morning Keynote with Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh. He spoke on company culture and how focusing on improving the work place environment and finding people with similar core values can positively effect a company’s overall consumer experience. It was an insightful look at how culture can and will to continue be a very important part of successful company’s business models.

After arriving 2+ hours early for registration I have a few moments to look through Day 1 of PubCon’s itinerary to see what topics would interest me. The one thing I noticed is that registration for the days events starts at 7:30 am. Don’t they know I am night owl? The founders probably missed my memo.
This is what I have settled on for Day 1.

Taking Off To PubCon 2009
In a few hours I will be on my flight headed to the city that never sleeps, Las Vegas. This isn’t the typical Vegas bachelor party debackle. This trip has a business focus and it will my first trip to PubCon – Search Marketing Conference. My day job is in the real estate sector as a office manager and active agent. The company I manage relies heavily on search rankings and blogging to deliver the company’s marketing message.
Missing a large advertising budget or the man power to spread our message, it fell upon me to figure it out. The more time I spent online searching for marketing products the more I kept coming across forums. Forum members discussed the number of leads they where generating out of their websites using SEO techniques. SEO? What’s that?

Everett Expressions set to compete at Nationals
Starting this weekend the National Figure Skating Championships are taken place at Peoria, Illinois. Practices have been going all week and starting on the August 3rd, Washington residents can cheer for a local hopefully, Kylee Berger. Kylee is a member of the Everett Expressions team coached by Anna Carrier.
Knowing these two ladies has been a great privilege and to watch them skate is something else. I tried to skate with them once; didn’t go so well for me. I probably better stick to skiing. Since meeting Anna and Kylee, I have come to enjoy a sport in which, and to be quite honest, I never thought I would.

Niche Social Networking and Sports Connectivity
As social networking gets more intertwined in our daily lives there is an ever increasing demand for niche social connectivity sites. Most of my friends are engaged actively in sites like Twitter, Facebook, Mixx, and People but unfortunately these sites lack a focus that caters to specific segments. Instead, those sites engage and connect large scale groups. A new site, that I am extremely excited about, connects people are interested in sports.
Timu.com is the niche social networking and sports connectivity site that is taking to social networking into a new realm. Both in lines of social media but also in the realm of team communication. As a sports enthusiast, avid skier, Seahawks season ticket holder, ex harescrambler and desert racer, and former Junior Olympian, I get a lot of pleasure out of talking and sharing experiences with others that have a similar passion, no matter what the sport. That void is what Timu fills and which other social networks cannot provide.
